What could be a better way to enjoy your Saturday than to to make sure you get a little pink in to it? This is my first time participating in http.//howsweetthesound.typepad.com/ 's Pink Saturday. It was hard to choose what pink thing to share so I'm going to share a couple. The first one is a bowl that hangs in my kitchen. My kitchen and dining rooms are painted pink and my living room and hallway are painted green. I love old china and roses so I immediately fell for this bowl when I saw it.
The second thing is an old china doll head that belonged to my maternal grandma. It was the only toy she had left from her childhood.
I used to spend Saturday nights with her every week. She was the most amazing loving grandma ever! She was always there for me. She was my friend when I didn't have any(moved -went to a new school-and junior high!), my cheerleader urging me on, my safe place and always providing love and plenty of ice cream. She would let me bring my friends over to spend the night at her house and let us dress up in her old clothes and jewelery. We would try to put on a little Carol Burneet inspired show for her and she always clapped loudly(I'm sure it wasn't that good!) I remember spending hours and hours with her pouring over old family photos while she filled me in on the family history, family scandels, and family mysteries. That is something I wouldn't trade for a billion dollars. She is my hero. I miss her still but look forward to seeing her in heaven. Her name was Julia Marie Workman McCaffrey and she showed me how to live, love, laugh and be the kind of woman I want to be. A big salute to grandma's everywhere that make a difference in the lives of their grandchildren!

Aww, what special memories you have about your grandmother.
I love that pretty painted porcelain bowl with the pink roses! That's something I collect too, porcelain with pink roses. Lovely!
I adored the second part of your post with the doll head and the story of your grandmother. Doesn't she just have the prettiest victorian type name too! What a sweet rememberance of her!

I second that big salute!! And love your pink bowl.
I'm so glad you shared about those moments with your grandmother. My grand was the same way and I think of her everyday! That is the Grand I want to be one day.
For now it is just to pour love on my adopted cats and precious hubby.
Loved reading about your animals. We had two dogs we raised from a bottle with the help of two cats and they all laid on each other to sleep and relax.
I'm subbing to your blog, so glad I found it.
Hugs to your fur babies,
Melissa

Hello Susan, welcome to your first Pink Saturday Post. The bowl is just beautiful and I love that doll head. Reading your post about your Grandmother brought tears to my eyes, she sounds like a very special person, someone who inspired you to be the person you are. May her memories live with you forever and that you pass that inspiration onto your own Grandchildren one day!
Love, Ann
Susan,
What a beautiful tribute to your Grandmother. It made me teary-eyed. Both of my Grandmother's passed away when I was tiny so I missed having any memories of Grandmothers. What a great post in showing how we can and do influence the lives of those around us {and prayerfully in a positive way}!!
Thanks for sharing,
xo

This is the kind of Grandmother I am trying so hard to be for my grandchildren.
Thanks for the lovely post...

Susan, What a beautiful post about your grandmother. She was special indeed. The roses on the bowl are heavenly, but your doll head is such a beauty. Have you ever thought of getting a body and a wig for her? Think how pretty she could be.
Love your pink, Jeanne

HI Susan, I"m a little late getting around to all the pink sat. post LOl great post, treasures from those you love are always best oh & when I said I was a true blue country prim gal I wasn't saying I was a "blue" lol "true blue" is southern term meaning genuine
Hi Susan, welcome to your first Pink Saturday and thank you so much for stopping by. Those photo mugs on my blog are done in the Walmart Photo Section. Just take in your favorite pic, they do the type I have here or a tile one that is a whole bunch of little pics in mosiac form. They make fantastic gifts with babies or pets on them. I love your blog, your pink rose bowl is gorgeous and so is your china doll with a wonderful story to go with it. Love your furry friends, we rescued a choc. lab also he was a wonderful friend we lost him last Sept. We had 7 great years with him. Yoyo's are easy to make, you can buy a yoyo maker in quilt shops now that make them go so fast. You can cut them out right on the plastic form so that makes it go so much quicker. I keep a supply in my car to work on when hubby is driving. Karla is a sweetie, I had my first swap with her. She is a Pretty Romantic Home Sister of mine. So happy to have you in the blogging world. I will add you to my list of favorites.
Blessings, Shirl
